#islandlakegivesback

ILRC was founded and thrives on countless hours put in by countless volunteers over the 20+ years since the club was incorporated. Additionally, we can boast of a first rate facility equipped with high quality rowing shells and other equipment entirely due to generous monetary contributions from individuals and government grants over many years.

It came to us that we have done very well on the receiving end of the spectrum and thought about giving back. Consequently, some of our club activities now have an #islandlakegivesback component to them.

In December, we planned a winter hike where anyone attending would bring some food for the Food Bank. A pretty small gesture that can make a big difference.

Keeping true to the active nature of most things we do, the club entered a team in the Coldest Night of the Year, a winter walk to raise money for local charities. This was a chance for club members to socialize, stay active and raise money for the Orangeville Food Bank. Appropriately called Born to Row, the team successfully raised $2530 in donations for the Orangeville Food Bank, the 8th highest sum of the local walk (not that we’re competitive or anything). With other events planned, #islandlakegivesback is an opportunity for us to reflect on our good fortune, continue to stay active and socialize with club members and give back in a small but meaningful way. Watch for upcoming events in the spring.
