First Launch
First Launch is a 5+ day program Island Lake is piloting in conjunction with Row Ontario for youth aged 14 - 17 who would like to learn to row. Offered in either am or pm sessions, Monday to Friday will be spent learning the basic skills required to row a single scull. Day 6 includes a BBQ and Bring a Friend opportunity where participants can demonstrate their new skills and encourage a friend to try. Sessions include skill outings, games/drills, exercises and safety practices. Participants must be able to swim and tread water. Includes membership in Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) and Row Ontario (RO) and mandatory insurance (fees can be paid through etransfer to info@islandlakerowing.com or by personal cheque).
Youth interested in furthering their rowing journey may continue with recreational or competitive rowing as recommended by our coaches.
Eligibility: Students, grade 9-11. While no rowing experience is required, participants must be able to swim and tread water.
Fee: $210 (plus RCA/RO fees - $261.05 total)
