A Great kickoff to the 2011 Adaptive Program!
They say that 7 is a lucky number and I would have to say that it must be true because for the last seven years the Island Lake Rowing Club has had the pleasure of coaching a group of athletes from Orangeville District Secondary School in our Adaptive Rowing Program. These athletes try hard, challenge themselves and learn the parts of the rowing stroke. Whether they are able to use their arms only or the full slide each athlete develops their knowledge and builds communication skills while working with their mentor/coach.
The program is differentiated for each student, depending on their needs and comfort level. Some will remain on the side of the dock perfecting their strokes and others when they are ready will go out on the water with a mentor and experience being part of a crew.
These athletes may face challenges everyday, but when they step on the dock they are just one of the Island Lake Rowers – they’re CREW!
