128TH ROYAL CANADIAN HENLEY REGATTA

Racing for the first time at Henley,ILRC entered nine races and proved that they are able to compete with the best.

In the elite races we entered two boats in the Womens Junior Double ( under 19 years). Huet and Hammond, in the fastest heat of this event, and racing together for their first year – placed 5th with an excellent time of 8:21.76. The racing duo of A.McClure and J. Sheppard – did well in their heat placing fourth with a time of 7:58.47 -also an excellent time. This race was really a heads up about the depth of racing at the Henley. There were 73 under 19 women’s double crews entered from all over North America. Our rowers are to be particularly congratulated as they are lightweights rowing against heavyweights in this open category race. In the under 23 light weight race the Norris sisters, Emma and Claire put up a strong effort in a tough category. Racing for only his second time C. Sibbald had an excellent race with at time of 8: 30.86 in the under 17 single.

In the Masters category Island Lake Rowing Club also raced for the first time. The Mens’ four of Reid, Kane, Daly and Lietz and the Men’s quad of Reid, Lietz, Kane and Curry carried out powerful races. The four placed fourth in their heat and the quad second in a final only race.

Meeker anchored two doubles…both with second place finishes. The 2B 2X with Burnside was a half second off the winning boat. In the mixed E quad with Manktelow Meeker accomplished another second place behind Ottawa, beating two doubles from Manktelow’s previous club – Hanlan. Manktelow won the H single.

Clearly Island Lake Rowing Club is able to race with the best!
