Well, who would have thought that our crazy idea of raising $140,000 would be so close to reality. The “little club that could”, has become the club that did!
Through our own club membership, high school parents and projects, local service clubs, municipalities, businesses and generous donations from our “friends of ILRC’, we have managed to raise a whopping $123,307.31.
The following is the list of equipment we have been able to purchase through the generosity of our community.
*Two doubles (2-person boats) at a cost of $12,200 each
*One four and one quad (4-person boats) at $20,700 each
*One 8-person boats at a cost of $30,900
*24 sets of oars at $9,600 total
*Two safety/coach boats and motors at $6,650 each
We are optimistic that the final push of fundraising will enable us to obtain the remaining critical purchase - our much needed second dock. This sturdier dock is critical to allow wheelchair accessibility for adaptive rowers. Additionaly a second dock will greatly improve the efficiency of boat movement on and off the water. Current congestion waiting for dock space causes 30 minutes less rowing time daily for over 50% of the high school students, who make such a healthy commitment to themselves and their schools every morning.
After high school season concludes, additional dock space would allow safer boat launching, as adaptive and learn to row programs operate portions of their programs at the dockside and obstruct boat launching and landing efforts during these times.
Won’t you help us out to reach this final goal? Please consider making a donation of whatever amount you are able and remember that your donations are tax deductable.
